He also wanted to honor the early Wisconsin residents who would have lived and worked in the region. Craig Madigan, a Detroit native who runs the restaurant, said it became a supper club in the 1950s and was known for its Friday night fish fries. In recent years the restaurant fell on hard times and Rost was able to buy it out of foreclosure in 2013. It was a natural spot to build a store and stagecoach stop in 1847 to serve both the small community and travelers.
A Place to Start Fresh.
"I've had parties in there where it would just turn into a full-blown dance party with one hundred people in that little room, dancing and sweating and singing," he revealed. Stamm shaped several of Santa Fe's most distinctive neighborhoods and redefined home design and building. Stamm homes feature hardwood floors, vigas, kiva fireplaces, nichos and other traditional touches completed with superlative workmanship. House of Hope provides a safe, clean and sober, nurturing environment for substance-abusing women. Our mission is to help women to regain their dignity and learn how to live without alcohol and drugs.

She found it "pretentious", so the couple never lived there.[4] The house, located on 10 acres (4 hectares), with gardens designed by Henri Samuel, later was owned by Arnold Kirkeby and then Jerry Perenchio. The Stamm House went through several chefs before Madigan, who had run Johnny Delmonico’s and the Statehouse at the Edgewater Hotel in Madison, decided to return the restaurant to its supper club origins. He hired Sergio Lopez, whom he’d worked with at Francesca’s al Lago on the Capitol Square, to run the kitchen. Our menu features 28 days of wet-aged USDA Prime steaks cooked in a 1,500-degree broiler served sizzling hot with clarified butter on plates heated to 450 degrees.
Stimson House
In 2013, we purchased the property and began a two year restoration, stripping it down to its original stone walls and rebuilding with modern systems. The original wine cellar, is now our Chef’s Cave, and the exterior has been restored to its historic 19th century appearance. This much needed work ensures the Stamm House will continue to be a part of Middleton history. The house is considered an iconic representation of modern architecture in Los Angeles during the twentieth century. It was made famous by a Julius Shulman photograph showing two women leisurely sitting in a corner of the house with an eventide panoramic view of the city through floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Stimson House is a Richardsonian Romanesque mansion in the University Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Built in 1891, it was the home of lumber and banking millionaire Thomas Douglas Stimson. During Stimson's lifetime, the house survived a dynamite attack by a blackmailer in 1896. There’s also the impressive Stamm Burger, made from certified Angus beef that comes with caramelized onions, arugula, tomatoes, crispy cheese curds and bacon-herb aioli on a buttered brioche bun. The building was completed and donated to the University of California in 2016 to be used for the Stuart House program. All Stuart House services are provided free of charge to the children and families served. When a friend and I dined at the Stamm House recently, we shared baked trout and hash-brown encrusted walleye entrees that were delicious.

We at House of Hope know that substance abuse, the interactive disease of alcoholism and drug addiction, can never be cured. We know that the disease can be arrested, given time with an encouraging environment, educational tools, knowledgeable support groups and, most importantly, the women’s sincere desire to change her life. Rost and his crew first pulled the red wood siding off the building and gutted it, in the process “reimagining” how it would look. He said he tried to put himself in the place of the people who lived in what was essentially a wilderness back then, working with horses and wagons, hand tools and laboring in primitive sawmills that could cut huge beams. Before Rost and partner Jim Hagstrom got the structure, it went through several iterations, including a purported stop long ago on the Underground Railroad — complete with a mysterious and now bricked-in tunnel. The restaurant got its present title after the building was purchased in 1925 by Heine Fuller, who shortened “stammtisch,” which means "regulars table" in German, to Stamm.

In many communities, sexually abused children and their families who seek help often have to go to as many as six different agencies in separate locations. Many of these interviews are conducted in cold, institutional settings, such as police stations and hospital ERs, by people who are not trained in “best practices” for interviewing children at different stages of development. These experiences can be intimidating to traumatized children and impede their disclosures.
The Stamm House was built in 1847 and has served the Middleton community as a service station on the “Old Sauk Trail,” which ran from Milwaukee to Minneapolis. By 1852 it was converted into a hotel and tavern and named “The Pheasant Branch Hotel.” Guests roomed upstairs and corralled their horses in the back. Stamos originally purchased the home in 2005 when it was only two bedrooms, and the home has now expanded to be 5,750 square feet with six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. The actor had designer Chris Barrett, whom he first met on the Full House set, help with the interior. "This place is more 'me' than any other house that I've lived in, starting with the bones of it, which are grounded and old-school," he said of the interior.
The restaurant reopened in 2015 and tried to compete with what Madigan called Madison’s fancier, chef-driven restaurants. “Most buildings like that have either been redone or turned into museums,” said Rost, who figures he and his partners put $500,000 into the restoration, not including his sweat equity. “I’ve been rehabbing old properties since 2000 in Dane County, buildings that have interesting bones, but that no one else wants,” Rost said.
We also liked the fresh beans, garlic sauteed spinach and crispy brussels sprouts. For dessert, we shared a blueberry crumble, a la mode, created by Hagstrom’s wife, whom Madigan called a pastry expert. It has been restored to its original stone walls, ceiling and wine cellar, all with modern restaurant systems and now 1847 at the Stamm House offers lunch, dinner, Friday Fish Fry, Saturday and Sunday Brunch, as well as a full bar.
Included in the program are individual counseling, family group counseling and interactive groups such as anger management, PTSD, grief and loss, relapse prevention, parenting, domestic violence, conflict resolution, self-awareness and communication enhancement. The house was designed by Sumner Spaulding in 1933 in the style of a French chateau. It was built for engineer and contractor Lynn Atkinson,[3] who commissioned the property for his wife.
At Mastro's we have an array of the freshest seafood selections, like our 2-foot-tall seafood tower of chilled crab legs, shrimp and oysters served over a cloud of dry-ice. Bespoke cocktails are dramatically presented in a haze of dry-ice, the list of world-class wine is extensive, and of course, Mastro’s has a premium selection of beer available. An early Stamm had two bedrooms, one bath, living room, kitchen, one-car garage, a walled back yard and an open front yard. Mr. Stamm hired women consultants to design the kitchens and did not fence the front yard because he wanted neighbors to get to know one another. He designed places for Christmas trees and highchairs and built garages easily converted to a new bedroom.
Five years later, it was converted to a hotel for itinerants, who took rooms on the second floor and tied up their horses, buggies and wagons in the back. There was a tavern on the first level of the impressive limestone building, where locals and travelers alike could get a bite to eat. A special touch in the backyard is a den for Stamos that includes padded walls so that he can play the drums and guitars without disturbing the main house.
It is said that to this day, no one has contributed more to the concept of home and affordable housing as visionary Santa Fe builder Allen Stamm. Much has changed in Wisconsin since then, but the building — now known as 1847 at the Stamm House — is still serving meals in a structure that was lovingly restored starting four years ago by Troy Rost, a Nebraska native who has rehabbed 20 other old buildings in Dane County. After 1925 it was purchased by Heine Fuller, who likely named the building after the German word “stammtisch” which means “regular table”. During this era, there was a thriving German-American community in the Pheasant Branch area and the Stamm House catered to their needs. Madigan, who has three kids including a 16-year-old daughter who works with him at the restaurant, said he wanted the Stamm House to be family friendly.
